Experience a relaxing, other-worldly stay in a charming strawbale casita, rich with artistic details and inspiration.
Sahuarita Casita is not located in Canelo but was built during a Canelo workshop almost twenty years ago.
It is located nine miles east of Sahuarita, in the Sonoran desert, at 3,200 ft elevation.
Includes:
One queen-size bed, microwave, an old-fashioned pitcher and bowl to brush your teeth/wash your face in the sitting room.
There is access to a composting toilet in the attached covered porch and a flush toilet in a neighboring building.
There is also shared access to a shower room.
On the property live many varieties of cacti, flowers, birds, and vegetable gardens.
House rate . . . . $95/night
(includes southwestern-style breakfast for up to two guests)

Closest restaurants are 10 minutes away in Corona de Tucson – Italian or deli.
Green Valley is 25 minutes away with a larger variety of restaurants and events, and Tucson, 35 minutes away, has even more.
Madera canyon, a bird-watchers paradise, is a 40 minute drive with great hiking.
Tubac is about 50 minutes away, as is Patagonia.
Temperatures are usually 5 degrees cooler than Tucson.
Weather is similar to Corona de Tucson or Vail.

About Mary Rosas
My formal training is in special education, psychology, and art therapy. My more valued training has been in creating art and this desert-space for the last 20 years. Along the way, challenges in my health took me down a different path than I had been on earlier in my life. Learning how to scavenge, barter, and mud was the means and in the end a place of serendipity and simplicity emerged. Bill and Athena did several workshops here and were patient guides and teachers to encourage me to ‘carry on’ -although many times chaos was much more apparent than progress! Tears, laughter, and soul searching sprinkled throughout the journey.
After many years and not until the casita was beginning to take form, did I remember a moment I had 30 years ago. While flying to a conference in California, I was mesmerized gazing down at the desert patterns. Tears gently rolled down my cheeks as the words came into my mind, “I want to create a place where people can come and be quiet surrounded by beauty”. Being in a very busy and hurried life, I soon forgot. Now as I gaze upon the emergence of this little world, I am grateful and amazed at how it evolved. Many hands and hearts helped and supported me to make this possible, both from friends and strangers. I hope to spread and share my heart’s joy …..
